Furniture Port, crystal chandeliers
Charming rosewood marquetry commode, the slightly bombé façade opening with three drawers in three rows.
The top is inlaid with geometric motifs; the carcass is in fir and the drawer bottoms in walnut.
Fine ornamentation of chased and gilt bronzes including drawer handles, foliated rosettes, keyhole escutcheons, corner mounts with espagnolettes, sabots, and an apron centred with a mask of Ceres. Most mounts are struck with the crowned “R” poinçon, original locks.
Louis XIV period.
Customary restorations carried out, French-polished.
The crowned “R” poinçon was stamped in the provinces under Louis XIV and the Régence on furniture bronzes as well as various copper-alloy objects; it predates the crowned “C”.
