Sweetmeat cup in finely chased solid silver and cut crystal.
The body displays an elaborate openwork ornament alternating quivers and flaming torches bound with floral crowns and ribbons, set upon consoles with gadrooned borders and pine-cone finials, entwined with laurel branches. Above runs an openwork frieze crowned with a chased border of rosettes on a matted ground.
The domed cover, encircled by a pearl frieze, is surmounted by a finial in the form of a swan resting on a shell. The scrolling vegetal handles emerge from finely chiselled boar’s heads and feature, at their centre, hunting dogs raising their heads towards the swan, itself extending its neck towards its counterpart.
This openwork silver mount reveals the inner cut-crystal liner, decorated with an ovoid band and a radiating star to the base. The whole rests upon a circular foot with chased foliage and a waterleaf frieze, set on a square plinth pierced with palmettes and raised on four ball feet.
