A Victorian 19thC silver plated bronze and crystal ten-piece table garniture by Mappin & Webb, London. England c.1880s
This exceptional table garniture exemplifies the opulent aesthetic of late Victorian decorative arts.
The ensemble comprises three large candelabra, a central centerpiece, and six matching tazzas (coupes), each finely executed in silver-plated bronze with cut crystal dishes.
The design displays a refined synthesis of neoclassical and romantic motifs, characteristic of Mappin & Webb’s late nineteenth-century production. Each base is adorned with mythological winged horses (pegasi), cast in high relief and meticulously chased, supporting fluted columns and scrolling arms enriched with foliate ornament.
The crystal elements are intricately wheel-cut with radiating and foliate patterns, harmonizing with the polished silver surfaces to produce a luminous and richly textured effect.
