The rectangular top features a mahogany surround highlighted with fine ebony and citronwood fillets, and at its centre a remarkable single-piece mahogany veneer, selected for its sumptuous grain.
The frieze, finely moulded and decorated with superb veneers in reserve, opens at the front to reveal a sliding writing panel covered in old leather, together with a full-width drawer fitted with an escutcheon framed by an oak-leaf wreath tied with a ribbon bow.
The whole rests upon four elegant tapering legs in the form of truncated pyramids, mounted with a rich gilt-bronze ornamentation including sabots, collars and a continuous lingotière.

Exceptional in both craftsmanship and condition, this piece is worthy of the finest Parisian workshops of the period.
A comparable example, similar in date and quality, was formerly in the collections of the MARQUIS BONIFACE DE CASTELANE and ANNA GOULD [1].
Our table also finds a clear echo in the work of JEAN-HENRI RIESENER, notably in a writing table supplied for the Dauphin’s service at the Grand Trianon in 1782, bearing the joint stamp of RIESENER and ADAM WEISWEILER [2].
