Old and Alsatian furniture and paintings
A charming piece of furniture, probably from an 18th-century Venetian workshop, entirely inlaid with walnut and maple fillets, the dynamic effect is created by the grain of the wood alternating with sections of burr walnut. The cornice is made of end grain wood and tops a gendarme hat pediment, in the center of which is an inlaid cartouche with a floral motif, topped with a helmet and coat of arms. The flap features a medallion with scalloped edges bordered by a strip of light wood, a mosaic of diamond motifs, and the sides of the piece also feature bastion-shaped reserves. This charming piece of furniture combines three functions: a curved chest of drawers at the bottom, a secretary desk in the center revealing a series of small drawers, and a bookcase in the upper part, whose door is glazed with a mirror engraved with filigree and scrolls, one of Venice's specialties. A small pull-out shelf is inserted at the base of the upper section, designed to display one of the collectibles, sculptures, or vases that would be stored in this cabinet. The piece rests on a base with small curved legs and crossbars carved with scrolls. Beautiful original bronze handles. A beautiful collector's piece, rare due to its small width, it will complement both a classic interior and a contemporary setting. Italy, 18th century. Two-part piece of furniture.
