An exceptional large French gilt and patinated bronze vase by Victor Paillard (1805–1886), one of the most renowned Parisian bronze makers of the 19th century. This finely cast and chased work perfectly illustrates Paillard's artistry in combining contrasting patinas: the warmly mercury-gilded surfaces are elegantly set off by deep brown patinated bronze figures. The baluster body is adorned with two seated allegorical figures in dark patinated bronze, framing a richly modeled cartouche depicting playful putti among garlands and fruit. The neck is crowned with curled acanthus leaves, while the base rests on a molded plinth of red griotte marble. Active from around 1830 to 1886, Victor Paillard produced luxury bronzes for a prestigious clientele and exhibited at major international exhibitions, including the Paris World's Fair. His works are sought after for their sculptural finesse, technical perfection, and refined neoclassical aesthetic. Signed “VP” for Victor Paillard. France, circa 1860–1870. Dimensions: H 65 × W 40 × D 30 cm An imposing and highly decorative piece, ideal for the discerning collector or an elegant interior.
