The Sèvres workshop under the artistic direction of Jean-Jacques Lagrenée (1739-1821) at the end of the XVIII? century adopted forms inspired by ancient ceramics, as evidenced by the Etruscan handles on the goblet. The Salembier style decoration, refined arabesques, known from 1778, reflects the neoclassical craze of the period with the so-called Etruscan taste in the cabinetmaker Jacob and his famous chairs, or here with this shape by Lagrenée.
Dated 1791, this piece signed by the painter Le Bel and the gilder Vincent is part of Sèvres' prestigious production of hard paste, marked by remarkable technical mastery and a rich, elegant ornamental style.
