"Tobit and the Angel", oil on canvas, Flanders, 17th century. Circle of Theodor van Loon. Theodor van Loon (1581 or 1582, in Erkelenz - 1649, in Maastricht) was a Flemish Baroque painter. Theodor van Loon traveled to Italy twice, from 1602 to 1608 and from 1628 to 1629. He is known as an admirer of Caravaggio, and his painting reflects this. Tobit and the Angel is the traditional title for artistic representations of a passage from the Book of Tobit in which Tobit, son of Tobit, travels with the archangel Raphael without realizing that the latter is an angel. 117x85 with non-original frame.
