Jean FUSARO (1925 -) - Bouquet of roses

Jean Fusaro moved to Lyon, where he studied for three years at the École des Beaux-Arts, before becoming a professor there around 1970. He took part in numerous group exhibitions, notably in Paris at the Salon d'Automne and the Salon des Peintres Témoins de leur Temps. He took part in the Menton Biennial in 1951, won the Prix Fénéon in 1953 and the Prix de la Ville de Marseille in 1957. His first solo exhibition took place in Lyon in 1947, and was followed by many others, notably in Lyon and Paris, including a retrospective in 1977 at the Musée Paul Valéry in Sète, an exhibition at the Musée de Melun in 1978 and at Art France in Paris in 1984.

Fusaro is an important figure in the Lyon school, along with Cottavoz, Couty and others. His lively, sometimes deliberately naïve drawings are reminiscent of Dufy. He depicts a wide range of scenes in strongly painted landscapes in a range of very fresh colors. His use of pigment is characteristic of the contemporary painters of the Lyon school, to which Fusaro brings a joyful interpretation.
