Henri Gaston DARIEN (1864-1926), Seaside with children
Excellent condition, with the original gilded frame. Many exhibition notes on the back.
Painted circa 1916, this painting has likely been produced partially in plein air and partially from sketches he did on the beach, and has a much more impressionistic feel than most of Darien’s production. The beach is near Etretat, and the boats are period-appropriate fishing vessels.
The kid is likely his own, as the same is recognizable in a few of his canvases.
