Sainte Anne et and the Virgin Child - the 17th century French school

"Saint Anne and the Virgin Child
Large oak wood sculpture
Second half of the 17th century
Measures H. 112 x L. 57 x prof. 26
Excellent condition

Large wooden sculpture with two full figures representing Saint Anna accompanying the Virgin Child.

The Virgin holds the book of Sacred Scripture with her left hand and prepares to listen to the Mother's teachings.

The scene conveys a series of emotions. The tender, innocent gaze of the Child, who will become the Mother of God, turns to the Mother, who expresses a strong drama accentuated by the strength of the carvings.

This is clearly a work of exceptional sculptural quality, which, in addition to its first-rate plastic movement, also highlights its excellent state of preservation.

The large sculpture was carved from a single piece of oak in the most classical French tradition.

In fact, although the influence of Italian art is obvious, the work is set in the finest French Baroque production.

It's difficult for large sculptures of this level to appear on the market and in these beautiful conditions.

The legal provenance is certified
