Around 1780 Colored Merchant Sign

This sign is molded in the form of a curved panel with notched angles on which are arranged as a trophy and carried by a tied ribbon the accessories necessary for the work of the painters.
The color merchants did not sell only colors but everything that was involved in their application, from the preparatory drawing to the painting itself. We therefore see a palette, a compass, paintbrushes and brushes, parchment and even a mechanical pencil as well as the support stick. The laurel branches remind us that painting is an art. The sign's plaque is arched indicating that it was entered at an angle, allowing it to be seen from two different streets if the shop was also at an angle. The work in low relief is deep with the details of the objects presented slightly forced so that the sign is readable and recognizable from afar.
The Carnavalet museum has a sign (in wood) of the same profession with a decor with the same attributes but larger.

Excellent condition, the four fixing holes have been hidden by bronze rosettes. The sign is held on a gilded bronze plinth who will be joined
