Early 17th, Pair of Antique yellow marble and Onyx Profils Medallions

Pair of medallions representing Agrippina and Faustina, Rome, early 17th century.

Reliefs in ancient veined yellow marble from Numidia applied to striped alabaster from Villa Palombara-Rome.

The representation, inspired by antiquity, must be placed in this profane and festive production of figures of the classical and allegorical nature of their virtues, linked to this cultured and refined collection which flourished in the humanist culture of the Renaissance and was also prevalent in the Baroque era.

Of refined manufacture, the small size, the precious materials and the extreme quality place them in the very beginning of the 17th century, very close to the productions of the Renaissance.
On the back of the old inscriptions designate them as the portraits of Agrippina and Faustina. Agrippina and Faustina are both Roman empresses, mothers of Nero and Commodus respectively.
