Important giltwood console table Aix en Provence circa 1760

Important console table in carved lime wood, gilded with the leaf in burnished and amati. Of curved form with strong overhangs on all its faces, the belt is only curves and counter curves treated with clear-cut. This one rests on a staggered base; the posterior ones decreasing from the profile of the front ones. All four follow the same philosophy as the belt all is that movements and curves leading to atypical interior scrolls in the lower part. The whole is united by a harmonious work of fine sculptures in high relief of grape vines loaded with heavy bunches nestled in an opulent foliage treated in high relief and openwork. The median part of the apron is decorated with a poly-lobed cartouche where roses, peonies and daisies are united by a voluble ribbon on a bed of thorny branches. The whole is topped with its original white marble leaf with a dense blue-gray veining that is very decorative and harmonious. It should be noted the great care taken to the linking elements of impeccable quality. Balance, nervousness, elegance and quality are the most appropriate terms for this beautiful table in Aix-en-Provence console. The specific work of the master sculptors of Aix en Provence gives this atypical table all its letters of nobility; we find the exuberance of the south combined with the theatrical taste of a magnificence all Italian.

Work of the country of Aix en Provence of the Louis XV period around 1750-1760 after the drawings of Pierre Contant d'Ivry.

Dimensions : Height: 88 cm ; Length: 163 cm ; Depth : 72 cm

Pierre CONTANT d'IVRY, named "Architect of the King", was a precursor of the new trend that appeared in 1752, the "symmetrical rocaille classicism" that lasted until 1760: we can notice on these consoles that the rocaille is tempered by a strict symmetry.
The cartouche of roses, peonies and daisies on a bed of thorny branches
is typical of the productions of Pierre Contant d'Ivry, this one announces the arrival of classicism.
