Pair of corner hanging shelves in divergent marquetry of flowers and insects on sycamore burl backgrounds. Curved and openwork, our pair of shelves is divided into three shelves; being intended to be admired from below because they are suspended high up, the underside of each of them is inlaid with bouquets of native flowers in violet wood veneer in end grain. A butterfly for one and a dragonfly for the other, crowns the garland of polychrome flowers running along the central edge of each of them. All the peripheral borders are veneered with violet wood in keeping with the bouquets. The 1760/1765. A model identical to our pair is presented at the Musée Nissim de Comondo in Paris. A photograph of this pair is shown under number 264 page 461 of the book by Pierre and Françoise Rouge; "the genius of the Axe" as well as under number 70 page 106 of the book of the Musée Dauphinois "Hache Ebéniste à Grenoble". This pair of shelves was restored by our cabinetmaker who carried out a fixing of the veneer uplifts and a french polish. Height 82cm.
