Chained Andromeda, Gustave Obiols 1858/1910

Cassiopeia claiming that his daughter Andromeda was more beautiful than the Neroids, the irritated ones complained to Poseïdon who in revenge ravaged his country and chained Andromeda at the foot of a rock to deliver it to the snake. Gustave Obiols / Gustau Obiols I Delgado (born in Spain) 1858/1910 pupil of the School of Fine Arts in Barcelona, at twenty years old he is in Paris completing his training with Carrier-Belleuse, founding member of the society of Spanish artists in Paris, he participates in numerous exhibitions including the Universal Exhibition of 1900.
Signed G OBIOLS on marble, late 20th/early 20th century bronze original brown patina (wear of use) the chain probably replaced.
