Colonial table cabinet, Mexico second half of the 17th century

An iron mounted fruitwood and ebony table cabinet, the exterior decorated with geometric panels. When open, the fall front exhibits a compartmented interior engraved with flowers, birds & serpents. The obverse of the drop leaf with an engraving after the painter Peter Monamy’s (1681-1749) Evening or Sun Setting (Le Soir; ou Soleil), printed for John Bowles & Son, at the Black Horse in Cornhil & Carington Bowles in St Paul’s Church Yard, London.
