Frieze with Dancers and Musicians (Gandhara, 2nd-4th century)

Jammin' the night away! Exceptional frieze (width: 53cm) with party scene at the court of Gautama, the historical prince who later became the Buddha. Dancers with swaying hips, double flute, hand percussion and a Lyra, held in a heavy-metal guitar like gesture. Beautiful example of this exquisite Buddhist Gandharan art, a mixture of Classical Greek and Indian art.
Acquired in auction in London.
