Base by Kichizo Inagaki (1876-1951), a native of Murakami, Japan. He trained in woodworking and lacquerware with his father, a carpenter for the imperial court. He continued his studies at the Tokyo School of Fine Arts, where he took courses in sculpture, particularly modeling, a discipline imported from the West. Kichizo Inagaki lived for two years in Hong Kong before settling in Paris in 1906. He made a living selling small wooden animal sculptures on the street. His talent was noticed by dealers in archaeology, African art, and Oceania, such as Joseph Brummer. The latter often calls upon Kichizô Inagaki for the creation of bases.
