This pair of encoignures in the style of the Transition to the early Louis XVI period is executed in the manner of the ébéniste Daniel Deloose. The bodies are topped with fully marquetry-inlaid wooden tops, whose central veneer is framed by banding, geometric patterns, and a guilloché edge frieze. The fronts are flanked by canted corners featuring classic simulated fluting in marquetry technique. In the center of the door fronts is an oval medallion with floral vase marquetry, depicting an antiquarian two-handled vase on an à la grecque pedestal, from which an arrangement of rose blossoms emerges. The sculptural depth of the botanical motifs is achieved through the technique of pyrography. Contrasting woods such as burr ash, walnut, and various fruitwoods were used for the marquetry work.
