Bedouin tent by Franz Xaver Bergmann, early 20th century

Table lamp in the form of a Bedouin tent, in Vienna bronze with polychrome patina, made in Vienna circa 1900 by Franz Xaver Bergmann (1861–1936).
The richly decorated tent features a central opening revealing a Bedouin seated cross-legged on a carpet, preparing tea. The ensemble is enhanced with numerous details: draperies, geometric motifs, weapons, a shield, a standard, and pierced decorative elements.
The upper section, in the form of a dome, is pierced to allow the light to filter through. The object was designed as a lamp, with the interior allowing the light to diffuse through the openings.
It bears the foundry mark, a jug and the letter B, as well as the inscription Austria.
The electrical system is in working order.
In very good condition.
Franz Xaver Bergman (or Franz Xaver Bergmann) (1861–1936) was the owner of a Viennese foundry that produced various Orientalist, erotic, and animal figures.
At the turn of the 20th century, there were around fifty workshops producing Viennese bronzes. The Bergmann foundry closed in 1930 due to the Great Depression. It was reopened a few years later by Robert Bergmann, Franz’s son, and operated until his death in 1954, when the remaining stock and molds were sold to Karl Fuhrmann & Co. He also signed his works with the pseudonym “NamGreb,” an anagram of Bergman written backwards.
