Pair of bronze lions, early 19th century

Pair of gilt and patinated bronze lions attributable to Antoine-Louis Barye
(1795–1875), depicting the Lion with a Snake and the Lioness Holding Her Cub.

They rest on a double marble base, one moulded in white marble and the other rectangular, in Bleu Turquin marble. The two are joined by a gilt-bronze twisted ribbon motif and each rests on four pad feet.

Of small dimensions, these two lions may have been produced in his workshop before
1845, a period during which his early works could bear neither the artist’s mark nor signature.

Dimensions of each bronze: Height: 12 cm, Width: 15 cm, Depth: 7 cm.

Work in a very fine state of preservation, rare with this patina.
