Virgin in majesty called Sedes Sapientiae in carved wood with several layers of polychromy.
The Child is seated on her left knee. He holds the Book of Scripture and raises his finger to the sky. The Virgin presents an apple (symbol of original sin) in her right hand, with her left hand resting on her son’s shoulder.
This original iconography and rustic style can be found in a homogeneous Pyrenean series from the ancient diocese of Comminges in the 13th and 14th centuries. (Reference: Michele Pradalier’s book: : “Gothic Sculpture from the 13th-14th Centuries)
