Pair of carved wooden caryatide representing two characters from Greek mythology: Heracles and Athena (Hercules and Minerva for the Romans). Heracles in heroic nudity with his club and wearing the léonté (the skin of the lion of Nemea). Athena as goddess of war, armored and helmeted, equipped with a spear.
The whole was probably integrated into monumental woodwork or furniture of Italian palace of early 17th century.
