Officer’s commode veneered in moiré satinwood, mahogany, and brass stringing.
This refined piece of furniture, with fluted uprights enriched with brass and topped with small amaranth plaques inlaid with brass stars, opens with three large drawers. It is surmounted by a white marble top set within an openwork gallery pierced with diamond motifs.
Our commode, a Lyonnais work veneered on walnut, is a late Louis XVI production that may have been made during the Directoire period, circa 1790–1800.
A piece of excellent craftsmanship, it is veneered with refined woods: moiré satinwood creating luminous and pearly reflections, enhanced with brass within mahogany framing.
A very fine collector’s piece. Louis XVI furniture in satinwood is represented in the greatest museums.
Our piece is in excellent condition. It has just returned from our cabinetmaker, who restored it and completely refinished it with traditional French polish by hand (not spray-applied).
