French School, early 19th century, pastel portrait of a young man.
Wearing a Titus-style haircut, he is dressed in a fitted blue velvet coat with a raised black velvet collar, a pale pink waistcoat, lace cravat, and white shirt. He is presented in his original oval frame in wood gilded with gold leaf, decorated with palmettes. Early Empire period, circa 1805–1810.
Our portrait depicts a young man from the bourgeoisie or aristocracy, very handsome, with finely rendered features: beautiful brown eyes, a gentle gaze, a beauty mark on the cheek, and carefully depicted Titus-style hair. The blue coat gives the portrait a colorful and lively character, while the oval format in its fine original frame makes the ensemble particularly elegant. A charming collector’s portrait.
The whole is in excellent condition; the pastel is clean and free of stains, the frame has been restored by our gilder, and the glass is blown glass.
