The four-lobed lid features a design of pavilions in a mountain and lakeside landscape. Inside, a small cup is decorated with asagao (small decorative motifs) on a black ro-iro lacquer background and a border of hira and taka maki-e (small decorative motifs) of gold leaf. Some minor wear is visible. The interior of the box is lined with nashiji.
