English, early 19th century
In the manner of Thomas Hope (1769-1831)
Herm with an Egyptian Mask
Wood, gesso painted and gilded diadem
23 cm. high
This attractive and well-carved herm bust comes from a Regency workshop in the early 19th century. The style is clearly in the manner of Thomas Hope, whose Egyptianising designs laid out in his catalogue 'Household furniture and interior decoration' (1807) were very popular in the Regency period.
