18th & 19th centuries clocks and furntures
A very elegant pair of five-light candelabra in finely chased gilt bronze and patinated bronze, resting on a circular base richly adorned with neoclassical symbols.
Each candelabrum is centered by a winged female figure, identifiable as a Victory or an antique allegory, supporting the main shaft of the fixture. The arms of light are decorated with female heads and butterfly motifs, characteristic of the decorative vocabulary of the late 18th and early 19th centuries.
The base is adorned with military trophies (swords, laurel wreaths, stars, palms), directly evoking the Empire aesthetic, inspired by Greco-Roman antiquity and Napoleonic symbolism.
The candelabra are signed RABIAT, Claude François Rabiat, a founder and chaser who became a master in 1778. He is known for producing high-quality works intended for a bourgeois and aristocratic clientele. His creations belong to the tradition of the great Parisian bronziers, heirs to Pierre-Philippe Thomire, Claude Galle, and Pierre Gouthière.
