Canopic vase in patinated and gilt bronze, Consulate period

Extremely rare canopic vase in bronze with a medal patina, decorated with hieroglyphs and Egyptian motifs in gilt bronze. It bears a label reading “L. Ravrio, rue des Filles Saint-Thomas, Paris”. Consulate period.

A work by André Antoine Ravrio, a highly renowned bronzier under the Consulate and the Empire, awarded at the Exposition des Produits de l’Industrie in 1806. Upon his death, his adopted son and collaborator, Stanislas Lenoir-Ravrio, took over the business and continued his work.

This exceptional piece, clearly attributable to the father, was likely part of the stock taken over after his death. To date, it is the only known canopic vase from the Empire period.
