Important Bronze Panel From The Cantoria By Luca Della Robbia 19th Century

Gilt bronze.

This panel, made by Barbedienne (signature engraved with a burin), represents one of the panels created by the sculptor Della Robbia to decorate a cantoria, or choir loft, located in the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore in Florence.
Interestingly, Donatello and Della Robbia each created a cantoria for the same location in the cathedral; they now stand opposite each other.
This panel, like the other panels in the cantoria, depicts a choir of children and adults, and on each panel, the choir uses only the same instrument (cymbals, trumpets, voices, etc.). In our panel, it is tambourines.
The large size of this bronze panel restores the statuary grandeur of the original model.

Condition:
Good condition, cleaned and waxed. A matte black steel base has been made for display on a piece of furniture. The gilding, applied with patinated gold leaf, has been restored.

Dimensions:
Height: 56 cm, Width: 50 cm, Depth: 10 cm
