The sculptures depict a bearded man and a woman, both reclining in the Roman style, leaning on a jar from which water flows and holding an oar. This is a representation of a river and a stream, a popular subject at this time, which can be seen in the gardens of Versailles in the form of colossal statues created by Baptiste Tuby around 1680. The andirons are complete with their original, solidly forged irons. Very expressive figures. The bases are richly decorated. Beautiful antique patina. France, late 17th or early 18th century. 26 x 17 cm. Irons 49 cm
