Clock known as ‘au cerf’ or ‘au perroquet’ in gilt and chased bronze with Saxony porcelain flowers
N. L. Guillemain in Paris
France, c. 1750
A parrot is depicted perched on a backdrop of rocks and flowers, looking to the right. The ensemble, combining rock elements and floral motifs, is organised around movement. The whole rests on a terrace also treated as rockery, featuring a scene of a deer being chased by a dog.
In the lower right-hand corner, near the parrot, two Saxony porcelain flowers bloom: one yellow with a pink centre, the other white with a yellow centre.
The enamelled dial, signed N. L. Guillemain in Paris, features Roman numerals for the hours and Arabic numerals for the minutes. Their blue colour is characteristic of productions made around 1750.
