Saladin born in Tikrit in 1138 and died in Damas in 1193, is the first leader of the Ayyubid dynasty, he leads Egypt from 1169 to 1193, Damas from 1174 to 1193 and Aleppo from 1183 to 1193.
Of Kurdish origin, Saladin firt serves the Emir Zengide of Syria, Sur Ad Din. Sent to Egypt where the declining Fatimid dynasty reigns, he was appointed vizier in 1169 and afflicted the Fatamide caliphate in 1171. He seized power in Syria after the Death.
He the concentrated his efforts against different Latin states of the East, of which he was the main oppenent during the last third of the 12th century.
He is one of the most illustrious sovereigns of the Muslim.
His popularity is mainly due to the holy war he waged against the Franks established in Syria Palestine during the crusade.
This head dates from the end of the 12 th century, it is made of marble with remnants of polychrome
