This Napoleon III period rug, made by the prestigious Aubusson Manufactory, is a testament to the excellence of French textile craftsmanship. It embodies the taste for opulence and floral refinement that characterized bourgeois and imperial interiors during the Second Empire.
Stylistic Description
The rug is distinguished by its rigorous symmetrical composition, centered around a circular medallion on a cream background, adorned with a bouquet of polychrome flowers (roses, daisies, cornflowers).
The Heart: Around the central medallion unfolds a ribboned wreath on a carmine red background, punctuated by stylized floral rosettes, creating a striking contrast with the darker border.
