Napoleon III fall-front desk

Beautiful desk veneered in rosewood and palisander.
Curved on all sides, it opens with a fall-front.
Interior fitted with three small drawers and a large secret compartment, writing surface covered with leather.
Rich ornamentation of finely chased gilt bronze: pierced gallery with fleur-de-lys, framing bands with pearls and foliage, cherub busts and floral drops.
Polychrome and gilt porcelain medallions with monogram and floral decoration, set in Rocaille frames.
Cabriole legs with sabots, French-polished finish.
A piece of high craftsmanship, probably the work of Alphonse Giroux.
