Round ceremonial dish in Deruta majolica (Italy) with polychrome decoration in the center depicting Saint Francis of Assisi receiving the stigmata. Saint Francis is shown in three-quarter view on the right, one knee on the ground, receiving his wounds from a crucifix. In the background are a mountain and the city of Assisi. On the rim, four compartments alternating between foliage scrolls and interlocking scale motifs separated by plain braiding.
First third of the 16th century.
Diameter: 41 cm. Tiny chip visible on the rim.
