Offered by Franck Baptiste Paris
A rare rectangular cabinet with gently curved sides and a high, inverted cyma molding. The sides and top are decorated with a high-relief design in European Martin lacquer, featuring pagodas and figures in traditional dress in a lakeside setting, executed in gold powder on a black lacquer background. The interior, finished in vermilion lacquer, contains two shelves.
Beautiful original ornamentation in mercury-gilt bronze, including spandrels in the four corners of the front and two gadrooned moldings that frame the top.
Parisian work from the Louis XV period, circa 1740-1750.
