This impressive patinated bronze composition by the French sculptor Jean-Louis Grégoire, entitled L'Allégro, depicts a lively Bacchic procession. Two nymphs dance in harmony: one raising a tambourine high, the other holding a staff entwined with vines, while a young Bacchus accompanies them at their feet. Their fluid poses and animated expressions fully embody the joyous spirit of classical festivals. The sculpture rests on a finely carved red marble base, richly decorated with gilt bronze ornaments, lending the whole a grandeur and decorative prestige typical of the 19th century. The bronze base bears the signature "Grégoire," confirming its attribution to one of the most accomplished French sculptors of the late 19th century. Created around 1884, the work testifies to Grégoire's refined modeling, the dynamism of his composition and his exceptional mastery of drapery and movement. Condition: Excellent overall condition — the patina is superbly preserved, the marble base is intact and the gilt bronze mounts retain all their original luster.
