Carrara marble sculpture (direct carving) depicting Cupid draped in cloth, pointing to the sky with a playful expression. Work signed on its base J. Halkin and dated 1876. A life-sized statue showing a certain character and perfectly executed. Note some damage on part of the bow, arrow in the right hand, and thumb and left index finger reattached. Little-known model, one example is identified at La Boverie (museum in Liège).
Jules-Joseph Halkin, Belgian sculptor born in Liège (1830–1888), trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Liège, he received a scholarship that allowed him to stay in Rome and completed his training with trips to France and Germany. Working on the ornamentation of religious buildings and public monuments, he would become a member of the Royal Commission of Monuments and Sites and exhibit at the Antwerp Salon between 1861 and 1882.
