Offered by Franck Baptiste Paris
A rare pair of finely cut crystal candlesticks with geometric decoration, resting on a base with canted corners and radiating facets, surmounted by a baluster stem with alternating facets and a socket engraved and highlighted with gold.
The gilt highlights, applied with gold leaf, depict arabesques and floral garlands in a purely Louis XVI style characteristic of the period known as the return of the émigrés.
The crystal, of exceptional transparency, is crafted according to models produced by the major French manufacturers of the first third of the 19th century, notably Baccarat (founded in 1816) and Saint-Louis, whose catalogs feature very similar pieces from the 1820s onward.
Excellent condition.
French work from the Restoration period, circa 1820-1830.
