European Works of Art from the Middle Ages to the XVIIIth century
Capital in stone with four sides, three of them with human figures carved in high relief.
The decoration shows stylized acanthus leaf motifs in two registers, the upper part featuring at the center three human heads and a flower on the fourth side. The characteristics of the heads follow the Romanesque tradition, with long parallel locks of hair, large eyes with a fixed gaze, and a hieratic expression, which together confer both elegance and solemnity to the whole.
The upper part of the capital has a perforation, perhaps once intended for the fitting of a lamp or lampshade. The lower part is also pierced to receive the modern base on which the capital currently rests.
