A finely engraved Roman carnelian intaglio showing Eros, nude and winged, standing before an altar. The stone, of warm orange tone, dates to the early Imperial period. It is set in a late 18th-century English gold mount, typical of Georgian taste for reusing classical gems in elegant neoclassical settings.
