Created by Louis-Robert Carrier-Belleuse (Paris, 1848 – Paris, 1913) for the Manufacture de Choisy-le-Roi, this elegant polychrome glazed earthenware sculpture depicts a rooster proudly standing, its beak open in a triumphant crow. The modeling highlights the animal’s vigor, while the brightly nuanced glaze lends the piece a refined realism. Signed on the base “Louis Carrier-Belleuse”, bearing the manufactory’s stamp underneath and numbered “1569 – 12 98 PLM”, this 39 cm high work illustrates both the virtuoso craftsmanship of Choisy-le-Roi and the artist’s naturalistic talent.
