Italian or swiss school of the 19th century.
This type of medium appeared in the 18th century in European manufactories such as Meissen in Germany and Sèvres in France. Landscapes, mythological scenes, portraits and bouquets of flowers were painted on them, and they were highly prized by aristocratic collectors.
In the 19th century, with the rise of the bourgeoisie and a taste for decorative arts, painting on plaques experienced a golden age. These plaques were often framed like paintings or inserted into luxurious furniture (boxes, cases, clocks).
