Very beautiful Head Ram in green porphyry from Greece.
it is a variety widely used by the Romans and then in Italy in religious architecture. It is recognizable by its color and light green feldspat crystals, sometimes with inclusions of blue or purple chalcedony. its luminous color and hardness make it a favorite stone for pavements, associated with other porphyries, such as red imperial, and marble.
it is found in St Mark's in Venice, but also in St Peter's in Rome in the Vatican. Green porphyry is extremely rare, which has never given rise to intensive exploitation.
The large blocks found were used in antiquity and the Renaissance in the form of columns.
