H. Vian - Orientalist Chandelier, France circa 1890

Charming Orientalist chandelier in gilded and chiseled bronze and « ruby » crystal attributed to H. Vian. The shaft is formed of six gilded bronze uprights from which emerge six light-arms ending in bobeches in the shape of domes with bird heads, and openwork binets. It is topped with a twisted column in « ruby » crystal with a leafy ceiling light decorated with spheres which, like the light-arms, are connected by chains from which hang “ruby” crystal drops.

Biography :
Henri Vian, a bronze-caster active in the second half of the 19th Century, made a lot of interior decorations with chimney mantelpieces, ormolu and patinated-mounted vases, chandeliers. He produced articles of the highest quality. The business, located at 5 rue de Thorigny in Paris (the Salé Mansion, now the Picasso Museum), was continued by Madame Vian after her husband’s death in 1905.
