Statue depicting Saint Michael slaying the devil with his sword. Southern Germany (Alps?) 17th century.
Sculpted in the round from softwood with traces of polychromy.
Michael is depicted standing, dressed in a robe tied above the waist and forming large, heavy folds. He crushes the devil underfoot.
His long curly hair is held back by a ribbon. Note his beautiful youthful, chubby face.
Height: 65 cm
