Anatole Lambron des Piltières 1838- 1898
French painter from a large Saint-Calais family
He decided to become a painter, studying with Flandrin and Charles Gleyre at the Beaux-Arts.
He made his debut at the Salon in 1859, where he exhibited regularly. Some of his bold, classical paintings were not accepted by the Salon Officiel, but the Salon des Refusés opened its doors to him. "According to Fantin-Latour, Lambron's rejected painting was considered very good and should have been a success at the Salon des Réfusés.
His paintings met with great success among collectors and critics, who appreciated his classic, poetic style, inspired by references to the 18th century.
Lambron is renowned for his elegant portraits and genre scenes, often inspired by Commedia dell'arte.
His technique is distinguished by meticulous attention to detail
His works can be found in many French museums (Angers, Le Mans...).
Our work, dated 1860, depicts Harlequin and Pierrot out for a stroll, on the outskirts of a village in the background. Harlequin is talking to a little girl accompanied by a man, probably her father, dressed as a soldier and wearing a smile.
The little girl seems fascinated by Harlequin, who has leaned over to speak to her, while Pierrot stares directly at the viewer.
