Offered by Mora Antiques
France, 19th Century
An impressive and rare pair of neoclassical vases inspired by the renowned Warwick Vase, crafted in France in the late 19th century. These sculptural pieces are cast in richly patinated bronze with gilt interiors and are mounted on substantial bases of veined green marble.
The design draws from the iconography of antiquity and the Bacchic tradition: the bodies are adorned with bold masks of Bacchus, trailing vines, panther skins, and classical motifs in high relief. The robust, twisted handles curl elegantly along the sides, enhancing the sculptural dynamism. Each bowl rests on a finely moulded circular foot atop a tiered marble pedestal.
Dimensions: 36 cm wide x 26 cm deep x 40 cm high
Materials: Patinated bronze, gilt bronze (interior), green veined marble
Origin: France, circa 1880
Condition: Excellent, with superb preservation of patina and detail
Inspired by a Roman original unearthed near Tivoli and later housed at Warwick Castle, these vases are emblematic of the 19th-century Grand Tour aesthetic. They serve as both decorative centrepieces and cultivated references to classical antiquity—ideal for a refined, neoclassical or eclectic interior.
